AMAZON STUDIOS ACQUIRES RIGHTS TO CHARLES SOULE & RYAN BROWNE’S COMIC BOOK SERIES EIGHT BILLION GENIES AFTER A HEATED AUCTION
PORTLAND, Ore. 07/07/2022 — Last week The Hollywood Reporter announced that Amazon
Studios has acquired the development rights to Charles Soule and Ryan Browne’s bestselling comic book series, Eight Billion Genies, after a heated auction.
The first project coming out of the deal is a feature film, which will be executive produced by Soule and Browne and serve as the cornerstone in a cross-media Universe of storytelling.
Charles Soule and Ryan Browne are represented by Angela Cheng Caplan of Cheng Caplan Company and Eric Feig of Feig Law.
The Eight Billion Genies comic book series asks, If you had one wish… what would you wish for? Now, what if everyone else on the planet had one wish too? Gil Adler Productions Group Options Jason Starr’s Highly Anticipated Science Fiction Thriller The Next Time I Die
(June 22, 2022) Jason Starr’s forthcoming science fiction thriller The Next Time I Die has been optioned by Executive Producer Gilbert Adler (Constantine, Valkyrie, Superman Returns). The highly anticipated novel, which is being published by Hard Case Crime later this month, will be the first ever science fiction thriller from Jason Starr, the two-time Anthony Award-winning crime novelist (Twisted City).
“Once my team and I started reading, we couldn’t stop,” said Adler. “We usually can tell where a plot is heading, but this book has genuine surprises and twists you just don’t see coming! Move over Harlan Coben, this sci-fi thriller will be the next ‘big deal’ on a streaming service.”

This 152-page epic story about the adventures of a 400-year-old Golem spans from 16th century Europe, to the horrors of World War II, to modern day Venice Beach, where the Golem has become entangled in a war between a gang and the police. In 2018, Chanan Beizer’s script for The Golem of Venice Beach won the very first ScreenCraft Cinematic Book contest for graphic novels. For the past three years, Beizer has been working with Eisner-Award winning editor Chris Stevens (Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream) to bring the story of the Golem to life with a dream team of artistic collaborators, including five Eisner-award winning illustrators (Allred, Bissette, Lee, Pope, and Sienkiewicz), as well as Nick Pitarra (co-creator of The Manhattan Projects), and the main artist, Vanessa Cardinali, a brilliant Italian artist who is currently making waves with Image Comics’ Slumber.

In The Golem of Venice Beach, Adam is a Golem, a creature of vengeance and destruction, of violence and death. He was created 400 years ago, a world away in Eastern Europe, but today he lives in Southern California. Adam spends his days adrift on the sunny boardwalks of Venice Beach, pining for release from his lonely existence. His only hope is the clueless Jake Loeb, the sole remaining heir of the Golem’s creator. But when Jake becomes involved with a mysterious tattooed woman and a drug-dealing death worship cult, things get complicated and dangerous for Adam. Golems are not meant to walk the Earth forever. Can Adam make a difference? Can he find peace in the California sun? And can a monster have a soul?
