All Star Creative Team Announces New Original Graphic Novel About Life After Humans in October 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 11, 2019) – BOOM! Studios announced today ORIGINS, a brand new original graphic novel by Arash Amel (A Private War), Joseph Oxford (Me + Her), and Lee Toland Krieger (The Age of Adaline), acclaimed writer Clay McLeod Chapman (Absolute Carnage: Separation Anxiety) and illustrator Jakub Rebelka (Judas), that presents a stunning view of a future where humanity’s last hope may be the person who created its destruction, available in October 2020.
One thousand years after humans have become extinct and replaced by artificial intelligence, a single man is brought back to life – David Adams, who created the technology that destroyed his people. Even with the help of the same android who revived him, Adams may not be enough to reignite the spark of humanity – and stop the AI overlords who plan to eliminate mankind permanently. Now Adams embarks on the greatest journey of his life, as he seeks to find redemption for his biggest mistake and discover if humanity can – or should – have any kind of future.
“ORIGINS is biopunk science-fiction that explores what happens to our planet in a post-human world, and the impact on Mother Nature of the tech our disappearance will eventually leave behind.” said co-creator Arash Amel. “In the spirit of my favorite classics such as Planet of the Apes, it is an exploration of human hubris and folly, and large-scale world building only truly possible in a graphic novel. I’m excited to be working with BOOM! Studios again after our previous collaboration on Butterfly.”
Clay McLeod Chapman writes books, children’s books, comic books, film and television. His most recent novel is The Remaking from Quirk Books. He is currently writing the ongoing Marvel Comics series Scream: Curse of Carnage.
“After corrupting college with the contagion kegger-epic Lazaretto, it is an absolute honor to return to BOOM! Studios with ORIGINS. The story we have set out to tell, exploring parenthood after the apocalypse and what it means to be human in the absence of humankind, is something I believe readers of sci-fi and beyond will love,” said writer Clay Mcleod Chapman. “Being able to collaborate with Jakub Rebelka is a total dream come true and I can’t wait for everyone to be introduced to the lush and terrifying world we have created… ”
Jakub Rebelka is an illustrator, comics creator, and concept artist from Poland. Rebelka is the author of the comic book series Doktor Bryan and Ester Klemens, as well as art book Element Chaosu. He has published short comics stories in various Polish magazines and worked as an illustrator for CD Projekt RED and Flying Wild Hog on The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings and Shadow Warrior. Along with Johan Radomski, he released fantasy story “City of Dogs” published in France and Poland. For BOOM!Studios, together with Steve Orlando he created the series “Namesake”, and with Jeff Lovenese series “Judas”.
“Humans are gone, megafauna have been resurrected, and only robots remember the old days. All that remains of the old world is covered with wild plant life while the towers of Manhattan are the silent witnesses of this new dawn,” said artist Jakub Rebelka. “It’s everything I always wanted to draw, and I’m very excited to show readers the brave new world of ORIGINS.”
“An absolute dream-team has been assembled to bring ORIGINS to life. Staggeringly beautiful and wholly original artwork accompanies an incredible story set in the post-apocalypse like you’ve never seen it before” said co-creator Joseph Oxford. “I can’t gush over Jakub’s artwork enough. The stuff he’s creating for this book is utterly stunning.”
ORIGINS, featuring cover art by Rebelka, is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Abbott by Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bury The Lede by Gaby Dunn and Claire Roe; Klaus by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora; Something is Killing The Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Folklords by Matt Kindt and Matt Smith; and The Red Mother by Jeremy Haun and Danny Luckert. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and David Lopez; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Daniele Di Nicuolo.
“This is a thrilling science fiction epic with a huge concept at its core and a keen insight into the type of legacy that we will leave behind after we’re long gone—a timely message for the world,” said Dafna Pleban, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Clay and Jakub have done an amazing job of bringing to life Arash, Lee, and Joseph’s story about the very best and worst of what humanity has to offer this planet and its other occupants.”
Print copies of ORIGINS will be available for sale in October 2020 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores, or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Madefire.

Berlin / Giebelstadt, Germany, December 12th, 2019: Start your own resistance on PC and MAC with Through the Darkest of Times on January 30th 2020!
Dark times mean fear and risks. The risk to be caught by patrolling National Socialists, looking for people who publicly stand against their point of view. The risk of being beaten up or even killed by the German military because we’re opposing the regime. The risk of losing everything, including our loved ones.
Watch the Through the Darkest of Times release date announcement trailer here:
We chose to fight. We founded a secret group, convinced our families and friends, and started to spread the word about the government suppressing and killing people. We share pamphlets, spy on despicable institutions and gather resources to find more supporters for our resistance. Living in fear of being caught every single day. Shaking whenever we feel watched or hear someone knocking at the door at night. This is how we live. This is how we try to survive. Through the darkest of times.
“The history of liberty is a history of resistance.”
– Woodrow Wilson.
This is the setting of Through the Darkest of Times from Paintbucket Games. You are the leader of a small resistance group in 1933’s Berlin, of ordinary people, from Jews to Catholics and Communists to Patriots who simply can’t stand aside. The goal is to deal small blows to the regime – dropping leaflets to spread awareness about what the Nazis are really up to among the people, painting messages on walls, sabotaging, gathering information and recruiting more followers. And all of that while staying undercover – if the regime’s forces learn about your group, the life of each member is in grave danger.

Warsaw, Poland – December 10, 2019 — 2020 and beyond is shaping up to be an exciting time for the 11 bit studios publishing division. Already boasting strong titles like Moonlighter and Children of Morta, the publisher is muscling up even more as they announce two new games are in production and on the way.
“We’re still an extremely picky publisher. We’re probably even pickier than we were before if you can believe it! Our job is to hand-pick true gems and put our best efforts in with the development teams to help make them shine. We believe in boosting unique projects and using all the marketing magic we have to see them succeed. Right now, we’ve got two projects we’re really proud to have under our wing,” says Pawel Feldman, Publishing Director at 11 bit studios.
Details are sparse right now (gotta save all that marketing magic for later), but 11 bit can reveal the following:
Publishing announcement teaser trailer:
Both projects — in various stages of development with further details coming in 2020 and beyond — are bigger in scope than anything 11 bit has previously published. With previous projects seeing such success, 11 bit studios are able to increase their investment in upcoming projects to the tune of over 1 million Euro per project.

This brand new graphic novel series illuminates the triumphs and struggles of important historical figures who aren’t found in traditional textbooks, but deserve to be remembered for their contributions to humanity and their inarguable strength and courage in the face of impossible odds.
SEEN: TRUE STORIES OF MARGINALIZED TRAILBLAZERS will be published through the company’s award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, with each original graphic novel spotlighting a different trailblazer who changed the course of history. In this new series, you’ll find the stories of the real groundbreakers who impacted our world for the better. They’re the heroes— the inventors, the artists, the activists, and more—whose stories you won’t want to miss.
“Traditionally, the history books do not provide a clear lens to examine the accomplishments, gifts, and world-changing acts of countless unsung figures who fall outside of the typical classroom curricula. We wanted to create beautiful, accessible comic pocketbooks for young adults and teens that tell the stories of those whose impact was as large and meaningful as anyone you may have learned about in school,” said Shannon Watters, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Thanks to Jasmine and Bex, the first spotlight is thrown on the accomplished, innovative sculptor and artist, Edmonia Lewis, who rose to prominence on the strength of her remarkable artistry and skill.”
In the first graphic novel of the series, SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS, writer Jasmine Walls and artist Bex Glendining present the true story of Edmonia Lewis, the woman who changed America during the Civil War by becoming the first sculptor of African-American and Native American heritage to earn international acclaim.
“I’m incredibly excited to share SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS! This globe-trotting, groundbreaking sculptor defied the roles expected of her, and paved her own path to international acclaim.” said Jasmine Walls, a comic writer and artist currently based in Chicago. “She’s a role model I wish I’d known about as a young artist, and I hope she inspires a new generation.”
“SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS tells the story of African American and Native American sculptor Edmonia Lewis. Edmonia stood her ground and took the fine art world by storm with her incredible sculptures,” said Bex Glendining, UK based illustrator and comic artist/colourist. “I can’t wait to help bring this amazing historical figure to life along with writer Jasmine Walls. I hope you’ll connect and fall in love with her story too!”
SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, home to groundbreaking original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Avant-Guards by Carly Usdin and Noah Hayes; b.b. free by Gabby Rivera and Royal Dunlap; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

Stan Sakai began his comic book career by lettering, starting with Groo for Sergio Aragonés. His work led him to meet Stan Lee, who asked him to letter for Spider-Man Sunday comics, which he did for 25 years. Sakai is most famous for his original creation of Usagi Yojimbo, an epic saga celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2019 and featuring Miyamoto Usagi, a samurai rabbit living in late-sixteenth and early-seventeenth-century Japan. His work on Usagi has led to multiple awards, including several Eisner Awards, the Harvey Award for Best Cartoonist, the Parent’s Choice Award, and multiple Young Library Association Awards. Skillful weaving of facts, legends, and Japanese culture into his work has made Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo a favorite among educators as a curriculum tool. Since then, Usagi has been featured on television with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and has been consistently named as one of the top 100 comic book characters of all time. A TV show is currently in the works, produced by Gaumont Studios, Sakai, James Wan’s Atomic Monster, and Dark Horse Entertainment. Stan also loves to travel with his wife Julie, cook, and play with his three dogs, Ani, Momo, and Mika.
