When Barbara Walters launched The View, network executives told her that hosting it would tarnish her reputation. Instead, within ten years, she’d revolutionized morning TV and made household names of her co-hosts: Joy Behar, Star Jones, Meredith Vieira and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. But the daily chatfest didn’t just comment on the news. It became the news. And the headlines barely scratched the surface.

Based on unprecedented access, including stunning interviews with nearly every host, award-winning journalist Ramin Setoodeh takes you backstage where the stars really spoke their minds.

Wax On, Wax Off-35 Years and Beyond!

As the film The Karate Kid reaches its 35th Anniversary it is being celebrated in some wonderful ways.

If you’re lucky enough you may have been able to catch it in theaters again on March 31st (which has passed) or April 2nd if you’re reading this before than. Even if did miss the chance to see the Fathom Events 35th Anniversary Showing, just knowing the film returned to theaters for a short time is a big thing to appreciate, especially for the biggest of fans.

If you are a true fan of The Karate Kid, a true fan, you are aware that John Avildsen & Robert Mark Kamen did not create a simple tale revealing a young man learning karate and winning a tournament. There are layers to the story, layers going deep into the past of the characters, the emotional turmoil of their experiences, going way beyond “wax on, wax off” and into the deep complex meaning of man, soul, and love.

That didn’t stop Quirk Books from adding a Children’s adaptation to their POP Classics! line all wonderfully illustrated by Kim Smith and we should all be very thankful of that. Rebecca Gyllenhaal, assistant editor at Quirk stripped down the story turning it into a perfectly suitable story for kids and adults alike. While gone are the anger of Kreese, the love feud between Daniel and Johnny over Ali, the severe injury to Daniel-San’s leg, Mr Miyagi’s unusual past, or the real reasons Daniel and his mother moved to California to begin with, left is a fun and adorable tale of a young man learning karate to overcome bullies and feel better about himself. All with the always awesome art Kim provides.

The excellent Quirk book and return to theaters isn’t the only thing to celebrate in terms of Karate Kid 2 though as the second season of the absolutely excellent COBRAI KAI series comes to Youtube on April 24th. While Cobrai Kai is even more “adult” than the original films and a far departure from Quirk’s book, it had a first season that was everything I think Barney Stinson would appreciate. Johnny is the Karate Kid, Daniel-San is the bad guy, but as it was never that simple in the first film, things are not that simple in Cobra Kai. The set up for season two with Kreese’s return, Daniel focusing his energy on a dojo and the inner family conflicts between the LaRusso and Lawrence families building is so quality it really is not miss viewing.

So on April 2nd if you were able to see The Karate Kid in theaters, then on April 24 watch Cobra Kai on Youtube Red (and if you haven’t yet, binge season one as well). Then on May 7th get your hands on Quirk Books’ The Karate Kid Pop Classic and fall in love with the first film in a brand new way.

10 MUST SEE MATCHES ON IWTV.LIVE DURING MANIA WEEK

MARCH 28TH, 2019

Wrestlemania week is just days away and this year IWTV is getting in on the action. We will be live streaming eight events from Wednesday, April 3 through Wednesday, April 10 featuring wrestling talent from all over the globe. While we encourage you to join us all week long, here are ten of the most anticipated, unique and interesting bouts you can expect to catch on IWTV next week.

David Starr vs Masato Tanaka – Beyond Wrestling, Uncharted Territory, Episode One

Wrestlemania week kicks off here on IWTV on Wednesday at 8pm EDT with the inaugural episode of Beyond Wrestling‘s new weekly series Uncharted Territory and this huge international dream match will set a high bar. The match marks the first time former ECW Champion Masato Tanaka has ever been in a Beyond Wrestling ring and he’s facing off against an angry (and yet still cocky as always) David Starr who is looking to pick up a big win after recent set backs in the promotion.

Orange Cassidy (c) vs Jonathan Gresham, European Rounds for the IWTV Championship – Family Reunion

The first Independent Wrestling Championship match of the week will open up IWTV’s Family Reunion event on Thursday at 12pm EDT and could well be the last if the current champion Orange Cassidy is unable to get past the first man to ever hold that title, Jonathan Gresham. While Cassidy has proven to be a fighting champion with a penchant for out thinking his opponents, Gresham is perhaps the best pure wrestler on the planet and the European Rounds format seemingly plays to the strengths of the challenger.

“Warhorse” Jake Parnell vs Gary Jay, Last Man Standing – Family Reunion

The Family Reunion main event will see a rivalry that started in the Midwest and has raged across the independent wrestling landscape come to a head when Jake Parnell faces Gary Jay in a Last Man Standing match presented by St. Louis Anarchy. The two men have fought in promotions all across the country, including an earlier Last Man Standing bout in Zero1 USA that escalated the feud to another level when Gary Jay used a ring rope hook to rip open the mouth of the Warhorse. Fans should be prepared for one of the wildest brawls of the week.

Addy Starr (c) vs Matt Tremont vs Nick Gage vs Jeff Cannonball, Fans Bring The REDACTED for the King Of Crazy Championship – Inter Species Wrestling Boner Jam IV: Balls Out

A match so crazy that we can’t even legally advertise the stipulation will headline Inter Species Wrestling‘s event on Thursday night, April 4. Current King Of Crazy Champion Addy Starr carries her title into hostile territory against three of the best death match wrestling has to offer in Matt Tremont, Nick Gage and Jeff Cannonball. Expect a ring filled with small colorful blocks and carnage.

Dasher Hatfield vs Mr. Touchdown, Ladder Match fro the Chikara Grand Championship – Chikara, Once Upon A Beginning

The Chikara Grand Championship will hang above the ring when these two former friends square off in a ladder match on Friday, April 5. The match was made to settle a lengthy dispute over who is the rightful title claimant that came about as a result of an injury Mr. Touchdown sustained while champion. Dasher Hatfield stepped in to serve as the interim champion in his absence, but has refused to relinquish the title to Touchdown since his return. This battle for the belt will be one of the most intense of the weekend.

A-Kid vs Air Wolf, Chikara, Once Upon A Beginning

Two of the top prospects in indie wrestling today face off in a highly anticipated rematch of the finals of last years Rey de Voladores tournament. While Air Wolf emerged victorious in their first outing, this match is one of the biggest coin flips of the weekend, as both men are evenly matched and have improved immensely since their first encounter.

Team International (Shazza McKenzie, Charli Evans, Jessica Troy, Indi Hartwell and Zoe Lucas) vs Team USA (Jordynne Grace, Kylie Rae, Nicole Savoy, Shotzi Blackheart and Samantha Heights) – Black Label Pro, Adventures In Wrestling

On Friday, April 5 at Black Label Pro some of the best wrestlers in independent wrestling face off in a big time ten woman tag team match courtesy of Ed In San Antonio Productions. The match may well be the most talent filled bout of the entire Collective and includes some of the best powerhouses and technicians around today.

Yoshino vs Jonathan Gresham, Black Label Pro, Adventures In Wrestling

Two of the most skilled wrestlers on the scene today collide in a true dream match at Adventures In Wrestling. The match is a big test for Gresham who may have the grappling edge but will be competing against perhaps the quickest and most explosive wrestler he’s ever faced in the Dragon Gate Wrestling star Yoshino.

Nick Gage vs Ultramantis Black, Yuletide Death Match – Game Changer Wrestling, Orange Cassidy Is Doing Something Or Whatever, Who Knows???

It took Orange Cassidy of all people to make it happen, but Nick Gage and Ultramantis Black are going to fight on Saturday, April 6. And it’s going to be a death match. The first time meeting between the two heavy hitters is sure to be the most violent affair on what is shaping up to be one of the most unusual shows in recent memory.

Sexxxy Eddy vs Arik Cannon, Alcobrawl – IWS, Unstoppable

Two independent wrestling pioneers come to The Collective to fight it out in a match that could well end up stealing the show at IWS‘ Unstoppable. Billed as an “Alcobrawl,” the bout is nearly guaranteed to have a beer soaked energy and “anything can happen” atmosphere that will serve as a wild last call for IWTV viewers on Saturday evening, April 6.

They’re are faster, stronger, and smarter…but evil. Created by Karone when she was still the evil Astronema, the Psycho Rangers were programmed with overwhelming hate for all things Power Rangers. They were defeated at great personal cost by the Power Rangers, but now someone has brought them back and they are more murderous than ever before.

Who brought these monstrous, twisted Rangers back, and why? And can Karone, the former Lost Galaxy Pink Ranger, and her brother Andros, the Red In Space Ranger, stop the Psychos before they bring the universe to its knees?

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS: THE PSYCHO PATH features a cover by acclaimed artist Diego Galindo (Kino, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers).

Currently, Power Rangers is celebrating over 25 continuous years on the air, making it one of the longest running kids live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise celebrates its milestone anniversary year with the 26th season,Power Rangers: Beast Morphers currently airing on Nickelodeon in the U.S.

Announcing Star Pig

from the Wild Imagination of New York Times Bestselling Author Delilah S. Dawson
Two Castaways. One Goal. Zero in Common!

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 29, 2019) – When you’re careening towards a frosty death among the stars, hitch a ride with a spacefaring tardigrade! At least, that’s how rebellious teenager Vess does it in Star Pig– the totally radical new comic book from New York Times bestseller Delilah S. Dawson. Illustrated by Francesco Gaston and debuting this July, IDW Publishing’s latest sci-fi masterpiece is filled with nostalgic humor and fiery spirit – just what fans would expect from the writer of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and Marvel Action: Spider-Man!

Like many late-21st-century teens, geeky 16-year-old Vess gets packed off to spend her summer at Space Camp — which is literally in space. Tragically, a shuttle accident sends her and the rest of the passengers careening into the vacuum. But when a gigantic, space-faring water bear miraculously rescues Vess and her beloved retro Discman, it’s the beginning of an extraordinary friendship and an incredible journey, all set to the tunes of Vess’s 1990s-heavy playlist.

Star Pig is the story of a lost girl and a giant space tardigrade, just trying to get back home. No, Star Pig is actually a love song to nostalgia and growing up, to the bone-deep knowledge that you can never go back to the way things were. NO! Star Pig is really about what happens when the rest of the universe is as obsessed with American Earth culture as we are, and the first human to make contact with aliens finds that they’re cloning Laika, collecting pogs, jamming out to Weezer, and using words like tubular,” says Dawson. “It’s a mish-mash of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and ‘00s through the lens of a teen girl who never really felt at home in her own time – but who might yet find her place among the stars.”

“When I started working with Delilah a couple years ago, her storytelling talent and work ethic were evident immediately. Soon we were discussing what she might like to create from scratch, and thus a Star Pig was born,” says Group Editor Denton J. Tipton. “The story is a retro-chic road trip through pop culture, but it’s also packed with new ideas and universal themes that resonate. Plus, giant tardigrade!”

The debut issue of Star Pig will be available with covers by Sara Richard (My Little Pony) and Francesco Gaston (Hulk), with subsequent issue covers featuring the talents of Paulina Ganucheau(Zodiac Starforce), Nicoletta Baldari (Star Wars: Forces of Destiny), and Sara Alfageeh (Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy).

For information on how to purchase Star Pig #1 – 4, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

THEY CALLED US ENEMY brings to life the unforgettable memories of American icon George Takei.

Watch the first video trailer!

In a stunning graphic memoir, actor/author/activist George Takei revisits his haunting childhood in American concentration camps, as one of 120,000 Japanese Americans imprisoned by the U.S. government during World War II. Experience the forces that shaped an American icon — and America itself — in this gripping tale of courage, country, loyalty, and love.

George Takei has captured hearts and minds worldwide with his captivating stage presence and outspoken commitment to equal rights. But long before he braved new frontiers in Star Trek, he woke up as a four-year-old boy to find his own birth country at war with his father’s — and their entire family forced from their home into an uncertain future.

In 1942, at the order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, every person of Japanese descent on the west coast was rounded up and shipped to one of ten “relocation centers,” hundreds or thousands of miles from home, where they would be held for years under armed guard.

They Called Us Enemy is Takei’s firsthand account of those years behind barbed wire, the joys and terrors of growing up under legalized racism, his mother’s hard choices, his father’s faith in democracy, and the way those experiences planted the seeds for his astonishing future.

What is American? Who gets to decide? When the world is against you, what can one person do? To answer these questions, George Takei joins co-writers Justin Eisinger & Steven Scott and artist Harmony Becker for the journey of a lifetime.
