THEY CALLED US ENEMY brings to life the unforgettable memories of American icon George Takei.

Watch the first video trailer!

In a stunning graphic memoir, actor/author/activist George Takei revisits his haunting childhood in American concentration camps, as one of 120,000 Japanese Americans imprisoned by the U.S. government during World War II. Experience the forces that shaped an American icon — and America itself — in this gripping tale of courage, country, loyalty, and love.

George Takei has captured hearts and minds worldwide with his captivating stage presence and outspoken commitment to equal rights. But long before he braved new frontiers in Star Trek, he woke up as a four-year-old boy to find his own birth country at war with his father’s — and their entire family forced from their home into an uncertain future.

In 1942, at the order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, every person of Japanese descent on the west coast was rounded up and shipped to one of ten “relocation centers,” hundreds or thousands of miles from home, where they would be held for years under armed guard.

They Called Us Enemy is Takei’s firsthand account of those years behind barbed wire, the joys and terrors of growing up under legalized racism, his mother’s hard choices, his father’s faith in democracy, and the way those experiences planted the seeds for his astonishing future.

What is American? Who gets to decide? When the world is against you, what can one person do? To answer these questions, George Takei joins co-writers Justin Eisinger & Steven Scott and artist Harmony Becker for the journey of a lifetime.

FANS BACK FOR MORE OF KIERON GILLEN & STEPHANIE HANS’ DIE #1 WITH ENCORE FIFTH PRINTING GREENLIT

“A deliciously dark Phantom Tollbooth-like journey told through a lens of broken humanity and a deconstruction of the role-playing game’s roots. I am entranced.” —Matthew Mercer, Critical Role
PORTLAND, OR 03/22/2019 — Image Comics’ Die #1 by New York Timesbestselling creator Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + The Divine) and artist Stephanie Hans is being rushed back for an encore fifth printing due to overwhelming fan interest in the series and to keep up with the series’ breakneck growth.

“We felt entirely sure that the fourth printing would be the last, but with another instant sell-out means we just have to go back again,” said Gillen. “We’ll be trying to print to match this shocking and humbling demand. High fives to everyone who’s joining us on this fantasy adventure.”

Die is a pitch-black fantasy where a group of adults have to deal with the returning unearthly horror they barely survived as teenage role-players. The series is perhaps best described as “Goth Jumanji”—but that only captures a sliver of what you’ll find in this series where fantasy gets all too real.

Die #1, 5th printing (Diamond Code FEB198164) and will be available on Wednesday, April 17. The final order cutoff deadline for comic shop retailers is Monday, March 25.

Die is also available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

Cassie Hack, the Killer of Undead Killers, Sets Her Sights on The Crow!

The Crow: Hack/Slash Brings You the Bloodiest Face-Off in Comics, Courtesy of Tim Seeley, Jim Terry, and IDW Publishing

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 18, 2019) – Hack/Slash creator Tim Seeley brings his singular vision of horror – and his unique version of the “Final Girl” – to IDW in The Crow: Hack/Slash, a comic book crossover debuting in June. Illustrated by Tim Seeley with inks by returning Crow artist Jim Terry, this four-issue miniseries sees fan-favorite femme fatale Cassie Hack on the trailer of an all-new Crow… one unlike any that fans have seen before!

In The Crow: Hack/Slash #1, a soul is brought back… but something is terribly wrong! The resurrected Angeles Cero won’t stop killing on a quest for revenge, and the bodies are piling up. Now, slasher hunter Cassie Hack and her monstrous partner Vlad are on the trail of the Crow Killer, wrongly believing themselves in pursuit of a masked murderer they’ve hunted for years.

The Crow defined me as a fan of the comics medium, but also introduced me to a whole world of music and fashion that I’d never had access to before – one that completely fit the attitude my teenage brain was desperately looking for,” says Tim Seeley. “It introduced me to the idea that comics could tell dark and personal stories full of pain and beauty. No doubt about it – without O’Barr’s original The Crow, there would never have been a Hack/Slash. Mixing Cassie, Vlad, and The Crow has been in the making for 25 years, and my buddy Jim Terry and I cannot wait to unleash it on the world.”

Jim Terry says, “O’Barr’s The Crow was a turning point for me – his book brought me to indie comics and blew the doors off what I thought a comic could be. Years later, I’d become friends with James and eventually work on The Crow: Skinning the Wolves. It was my first published work and still among the best things I’ve done, and now I get to work in this universe again with my pal Tim Seeley. He’s a clever writer and a gifted storyteller, so I’m excited to take this ride and push some artistic limits!”

Issue #1 will feature a regular cover by Tim Seeley, with a variant edition by Rebekah A. Isaacs (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and a special “inked” variant by Seeley.

For information on how to secure copies of The Crow: Hack/Slash, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Terror Reigns in Celine Loup’s Graphic Novel

Below the press release I shall include an image from an earlier version of this book just so folks can see how absolutely beautiful Celine Loup‘s work is.

THE MAN WHO CAME DOWN THE ATTIC STAIRS From BOOM! Studios

Discover a Young Mother’s Fear of the Relentless Horror That Haunts Her Home in September 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 20, 2019) – BOOM! Studios today announced THE MAN WHO CAME DOWN THE ATTIC STAIRS, a new original graphic novel inspired by the works of Shirley Jackson and Ira Levin, in which acclaimed comics creator Celine Loup weaves a tale of horror and suspense that captures the isolation of postpartum depression, while exploring the very real fears associated with new motherhood. Arriving in stores September 2019.

Emma is excited to start a family in her new home, but after her child’s birth she finds her world turning upside-down. The infant cries like it’s scared of something, or someone, and Emma’s sleepless nights quickly drive a wedge between her and her husband, who seems uncharacteristically detached. When Emma begins to see strange things in the house, the line between reality and fantasy blurs and her grasp of what’s real and what’s not becomes even more clouded. Is something unnatural haunting the nursery? And what if it also affected her husband, who ventured up into the attic when they first arrived…

Celine Loup is an illustrator and Ignatz Award-nominated cartoonist who currently lives in France. She has done illustration work for The New York TimesThe New YorkerThe A.V. ClubVarietyLucky Peach, and Medium. Loup is the acclaimed creator of popular comics such as Honey and Mother, as well as her current ongoing series, Hestia. Her work has garnered an Ignatz Awards nomination, recognition on the Best American Comics “Notable Books” list,  and acclaim from American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators, and CMYK.

“I wanted to tell a story about a fear that women dare not speak aloud, not even to themselves, often until after it’s too late. Motherhood brings so much joy to the women who experience it, but for many it can feel like a prison, and no one can be certain until they’ve crossed a point of no return how it will be for them.” said creator, Celine Loup. “Horror’s greatest potential is the gift of empathy, and I hope THE MAN WHO CAME DOWN THE ATTIC STAIRS will create a space in which we can reach out to each other in times of personal crisis without fear of judgement.”

THE MAN WHO CAME DOWN THE ATTIC STAIRS is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ ambitious Archaia imprint, home to graphic novels such as Mouse Guard by David Petersen; New World by David Jesus Vignolli; Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna and Ramón Pérez; About Betty’s Boob by Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau; Bolivar by Sean Rubin; and licensed series including Lev Grossman’s The Magicians: Alice’s Story by Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak; Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation.

“Celine’s work oozes with emotion. With a single look her characters reveal their humanity or, perhaps in this case, lack thereof,” said Sierra Hahn, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Like the very best horror films, THE MAN WHO CAME DOWN THE ATTIC STAIRSconjures from its audience sincere empathy for its protagonist and a deep sense of unease for what lives within the shadows . . .”

Print copies of THE MAN WHO CAME DOWN THE ATTIC STAIRS will be available for sale September 18, 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), September 24, 2019 at bookstores, or at the BOOM!
