When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. Through The Darkest of Times releases Jan 30.

January 30th, 2020: almost one century after Hitler became chancellor, it is up to you to go back in time and lead a resistance group through the darkest of times.

Berlin / Giebelstadt, Germany, December 12th, 2019: Start your own resistance on PC and MAC with Through the Darkest of Times on January 30th 2020!

Dark times mean fear and risks. The risk to be caught by patrolling National Socialists, looking for people who publicly stand against their point of view. The risk of being beaten up or even killed by the German military because we’re opposing the regime. The risk of losing everything, including our loved ones.

Watch the Through the Darkest of Times release date announcement trailer here:

We chose to fight. We founded a secret group, convinced our families and friends, and started to spread the word about the government suppressing and killing people. We share pamphlets, spy on despicable institutions and gather resources to find more supporters for our resistance. Living in fear of being caught every single day. Shaking whenever we feel watched or hear someone knocking at the door at night. This is how we live. This is how we try to survive. Through the darkest of times.

“The history of liberty is a history of resistance.”

– Woodrow Wilson.

This is the setting of Through the Darkest of Times from Paintbucket Games. You are the leader of a small resistance group in 1933’s Berlin, of ordinary people, from Jews to Catholics and Communists to Patriots who simply can’t stand aside. The goal is to deal small blows to the regime – dropping leaflets to spread awareness about what the Nazis are really up to among the people, painting messages on walls, sabotaging, gathering information and recruiting more followers. And all of that while staying undercover – if the regime’s forces learn about your group, the life of each member is in grave danger.

11 bit studios Add Two Killer Titles to Their Publishing Lineup for 2020 and Beyond

11 bit studios team up once again with the developers of Moonlighter and take on an ambitious project from Fool’s Theory

Warsaw, Poland – December 10, 2019 — 2020 and beyond is shaping up to be an exciting time for the 11 bit studios publishing division. Already boasting strong titles like Moonlighter and Children of Morta, the publisher is muscling up even more as they announce two new games are in production and on the way.

“We’re still an extremely picky publisher. We’re probably even pickier than we were before if you can believe it! Our job is to hand-pick true gems and put our best efforts in with the development teams to help make them shine. We believe in boosting unique projects and using all the marketing magic we have to see them succeed. Right now, we’ve got two projects we’re really proud to have under our wing,” says Pawel Feldman, Publishing Director at 11 bit studios.

Details are sparse right now (gotta save all that marketing magic for later), but 11 bit can reveal the following:

  • 11 bit studios is beyond thrilled to be teaming up with Poland-based Fool’s Theory for their latest project, codenamed Vitriol. The studio behind the artfully created stealth title, Seven: The Days Long Gone, is developing a game best described as a meaningful RPG. Jakub Rokosz, CEO at Fool’s Theory says, “We are truly happy to align with 11 bit studios. They’re known for their ability to find the unique spirit in a game and I believe our upcoming title fits impeccably with the type of projects they like to work on.”
  • You might say 11 bit studios is ‘over the Moon(lighter)’ to be teaming up once more with the team at Digital Sun Games. There’s nothing to divulge just yet, but rest assured that the hard-working Spanish developer is putting the same care and attention into their new project (codename Foxhole) as they did with their critically acclaimed indie hit, Moonlighter, but this time it’s a totally new IP. “We badly wanted to work with these guys again. As a team, we feel 11 bit did a great job with Moonlighter and we both want to do even better things together. It’s really as simple as that, says Javier Gimenez, CEO at Digital Sun Games.

Publishing announcement teaser trailer:

Both projects — in various stages of development with further details coming in 2020 and beyond — are bigger in scope than anything 11 bit has previously published. With previous projects seeing such success, 11 bit studios are able to increase their investment in upcoming projects to the tune of over 1 million Euro per project.

Discover the True Stories of Marginalized Trailblazers in New Graphic Novel Series SEEN From BOOM! Studios

A Groundbreaking Graphic Novel Series Sheds Light on Pivotal Historical Figures Starting in September 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 9, 2019) – BOOM! Studios today announced SEEN: TRUE STORIES OF MARGINALIZED TRAILBLAZERS, an all-new original graphic novel series debuting in September 2020 from a group of acclaimed comics creators, including Jasmine Walls, Bex Glendining, Birdie Willis, Rii Abrego, Anthony Oliveira, and Killian Ng. This brand new graphic novel series illuminates the triumphs and struggles of important historical figures who aren’t found in traditional textbooks, but deserve to be remembered for their contributions to humanity and their inarguable strength and courage in the face of impossible odds.

SEEN: TRUE STORIES OF MARGINALIZED TRAILBLAZERS will be published through the company’s award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, with each original graphic novel spotlighting a different trailblazer who changed the course of history. In this new series, you’ll find the stories of the real groundbreakers who impacted our world for the better. They’re the heroes— the inventors, the artists, the activists, and more—whose stories you won’t want to miss.

“Traditionally, the history books do not provide a clear lens to examine the accomplishments, gifts, and world-changing acts of countless unsung figures who fall outside of the typical classroom curricula. We wanted to create beautiful, accessible comic pocketbooks for young adults and teens that tell the stories of those whose impact was as large and meaningful as anyone you may have learned about in school,” said Shannon Watters, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Thanks to Jasmine and Bex, the first spotlight is thrown on the accomplished, innovative sculptor and artist, Edmonia Lewis, who rose to prominence on the strength of her remarkable artistry and skill.”

In the first graphic novel of the series, SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS, writer Jasmine Walls and artist Bex Glendining present the true story of Edmonia Lewis, the woman who changed America during the Civil War by becoming the first sculptor of African-American and Native American heritage to earn international acclaim.

“I’m incredibly excited to share SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS! This globe-trotting, groundbreaking sculptor defied the roles expected of her, and paved her own path to international acclaim.” said Jasmine Walls, a comic writer and artist currently based in Chicago. “She’s a role model I wish I’d known about as a young artist, and I hope she inspires a new generation.”

SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS tells the story of African American and Native American sculptor Edmonia Lewis. Edmonia stood her ground and took the fine art world by storm with her incredible sculptures,” said Bex Glendining, UK based illustrator and comic artist/colourist. “I can’t wait to help bring this amazing historical figure to life along with writer Jasmine Walls. I hope you’ll connect and fall in love with her story too!”

SEEN: EDMONIA LEWIS is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, home to groundbreaking original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Avant-Guards by Carly Usdin and Noah Hayes; b.b. free by Gabby Rivera and Royal Dunlap; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 04, 2019) – IDW Publishing (OTC: IDWM) is proud to announce that Grasscutter, the critically acclaimed storyline considered to be the seminal tale in Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo comic book series, is now available in the prestigious Artist Select Edition format, sold exclusively online by IDW Limited.

For the first time ever, the beloved Grasscutter storyline is collected in its entirety in a single volume, comprising both the original Eisner Award-winning storyline from Usagi Yojimbo #13-22 and its sequel, Grasscutter II, published in issues #39-45.

The Artist Select Edition treatment delivers each page of Grasscutter’s powerful narrative to the reader in its most faithful presentation ever: scanned from Sakai’s original art, courtesy of the artist’s personal archives, in the same manner as the multi-Eisner award-winning Artist’s Edition series from IDW.

“Saying I am pleased with this book would be an understatement,” said Stan Sakai, “The presentation of my work, the attention to detail and the design, make this the best collection ever done of my stories. I could not be happier with it.”

Limited to 999 copies, the massive 464-page tome measures 9” x 13” and features a lovely dust jacket that showcases a beautiful new watercolor painting by Sakai, created especially for this project. The book comes in a beautifully designed silver foil-stamped slipcase, and retails for $150.00.

Both the book and portfolio are presented in a custom clamshell case that completely encloses the book and portfolio. The Deluxe Edition retails for $350.00.

The Deluxe Edition is available to order here.

As an added bonus to fans, IDW Limited is proud to offer a free autographed copy of a Usagi Yojimbo comic to those customers who purchase a Regular or Deluxe Edition of the Grasscutter Artist Select within its first 48 hours of online availability.

Stan Sakai began his comic book career by lettering, starting with Groo for Sergio Aragonés. His work led him to meet Stan Lee, who asked him to letter for Spider-Man Sunday comics, which he did for 25 years. Sakai is most famous for his original creation of Usagi Yojimbo, an epic saga celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2019 and featuring Miyamoto Usagi, a samurai rabbit living in late-sixteenth and early-seventeenth-century Japan. His work on Usagi has led to multiple awards, including several Eisner Awards, the Harvey Award for Best Cartoonist, the Parent’s Choice Award, and multiple Young Library Association Awards. Skillful weaving of facts, legends, and Japanese culture into his work has made Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo a favorite among educators as a curriculum tool. Since then, Usagi has been featured on television with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and has been consistently named as one of the top 100 comic book characters of all time. A TV show is currently in the works, produced by Gaumont Studios, Sakai, James Wan’s Atomic Monster, and Dark Horse Entertainment. Stan also loves to travel with his wife Julie, cook, and play with his three dogs, Ani, Momo, and Mika.

John Allison and Max Sarin Announce WICKED THINGS with BOOM! Studios in 2020

The Game’s Afoot as Acclaimed Giant Days Creative Team Returns with All New Limited Series in March 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 3, 2019) – BOOM! Studios is proud to announce  WICKED THINGS, reuniting the Eisner Award-winning team, writer John Allison (Steeple, Bad Machinery), artist Max Sarin, colorist Whitney Cogar, and letterer Jim Campbell for a new original six-issue series about everyone’s favorite young detective from the world of Giant Days: Charlotte Grote.

Nineteen year old Charlotte “Lottie” Grote has her whole life ahead of her; headed straight to university and a future as a real detective—until she’s framed for murder! Given the choice between going to jail basically forever or joining the police, Lottie decides to hit the beat, all while trying to find the real murderer. Lottie may have been running rings about the police since her 9th birthday, but she’s never been on this side of the security tape. Could the future of law enforcement be 5’2” with an extremely strong bangs game? Yes. Very yes.

Based in Letchworth Garden City, UK, John Allison is the creator of the comic series Giant Days, By Night, and Steeple, and of the all-ages book series Bad Machinery. In addition, he created the webcomics Bobbins and Scary Go Round, with his work appearing online since 1998. He was one of the first comic artists to build a daily following exclusively on the internet.

John’s various comics have been nominated for Eisner Awards every year from 2016-2019, and in 2018 he won the Best Long-Form Online Comic award from the US National Cartoonists’ Society. Giant Days has sold almost half a million copies worldwide, won Eisner Awards for Best Continuing Series and Best Humor Publication, and is currently being published in seven foreign language editions.

WICKED THINGS is a tale I’ve been waiting years to tell—the story of what happens when a precocious teen detective ages out of their division overnight. Lottie Grote is the crown jewel of my little comics universe, and I don’t think she could be in safer artistic hands than Max Sarin, whose work gets better every month.” said writer John Allison. “I’m delighted the GIANT DAYS team is back together so soon.”

Max Sarin is the National Cartoonist Award-winning comic book artist and illustrator from Finland who is known for their work on the Eisner Award-winning series Giant Days with creator John Allison.

“From Slice of Life to Slice of Crime! Some WICKED THINGS are coming our way!” said artist Max Sarin.

WICKED THINGS is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, home to groundbreaking original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; Heavy Vinyl by Carly Usdin and Nina Vakueva; b.b. free by Gabby Rivera and Royal Dunlap; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna The Mad; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

“Sarah Grote’s little sister Lottie is all grown up, and now she’s a crime fighting teen who’s admittedly still running blindly into situations and getting into trouble. We meet her now as John and Max throw her right from the frying pan into the fire and the trouble Lottie gets into comes with a capital ‘T’,” said Shannon Watters, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “If you’re a fan of Giant Days, murder, mystery, mayhem—or all of the above—do yourself a favor and dive right in!”

Print copies of WICKED THINGS #1 will be available in March 2020 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores, or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Madefire.

Ghostrunner is a first-person hardcore cyberpunk adventure coming next year to Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It is created and developed by One More Level and published by All in! Games.

3D Realms, drawing on its knowledge and many years of experience in the FPS genre, will support the technical production and marketing of Ghostrunner.
