I haven’t written about this much if at all, but back when on my PS1, JRPGs were my jam. I was into all those Tales games, Chrono Cross, Suikoden, etc. I’ve always felt a love letter to those type of games would be great, but they couldn’t be a strict love letter. If they were that I’d rather just play the originals or if they were a love letter, they would need to only be inspired but nothing like them. For it to be a true love letter yet still be like those games it would need some kind of twist. Something that changed it up. Story wise or gameplay. Fallen Symphony definitely brings it in the game style. As much as I loved those JRGs I also loved Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe. Imagine if those games were also JRPGs with systems and dungeon crawling? That is what Fallen Symphony at least promises to be.

The preview I was given only gave the prologue where we met our protagonist, son of the King, whose brother went missing and whose father is ill and the leader of the Guard who fights at our side for a time. The world is sligtly set up as we discover some of our enemies (seen above), the way combat works and the vibe of the game.

Fallen Symphony is being developed by RetroVertigo and will be published by Deck 13, there is no release date at this time but you can keep an eye out and wishlist it on the Steam Page.
