"Batman - Mystery of the Batwoman"

This direct-to-video Batman film was really good. It was also much better than I expected. I rented it out of curiosity, but had no clue I would be so engrossed. The mystery is fairly easy to guess and has been done in comics before. Last time I recall them doing something of the ilk was the Tangent Universe's Joker.

It was still done extremely well.

It was nice to hear Kevin Conroy do his old version of Batman, not the new wimpy Batman he does on Justice League. David Odgen Stiers as Penguin rocked. Hector Elizondo did Bane's voice. The sexy and moderate voice of Kyra Sedgwick encompassed "Batwoman".

The disc had a nice sit-down piece with Michael Reaves, Alan Burnett, Curt Geda and some other chick about the making of the film, there was also a good documentary/interview piece with interviews with all the voice actors and such.

The animation was the standard fans of the 90's Batman cartoons have grown to appreciate. The style of course made famous by Bruce Timm, Mike Parobeck, Ty Templeton and Rick Burchett. Which was adapted for the screen by directors like Curt Geda. I believe I would actually own this, but possibly after a 3rd or 4th viewing it may lose its luster or enjoyment. Especially with that freaking Cherie song piping halfway through the film. God, that was horrendous and trite Latin - American sung pop. Is there even such thing as good Latin American sung pop? The other addition of the disc is a new short called "Chase Me" which Dini and Timm had a hand in, but I really didn't care for the jazz piece that accompanies it.

So, I give  Batman - Mystery of the Batwoman a top notch thumbs up but a huge thumbs down to the music choices.
