Explore Art from Every Era
The art that fills the walls of the Labyrinth is an eclectic mixture of the classic and the modern, the well-known and the obscure, the beautiful and the weird, drawn from the collections of great museums who are keen to share their treasures in new and exciting ways online. Nerd Notes 1-29-2024

The longest Nerd Notes you’ll have seen in a long time. Six days away in New Orleans means six days of catch up. Here are the trailers, music videos and what have you from YT and the internet that have caught my eye since I’ve been away and have come back between Jan 22-28th, 2024 and some bonuses from 1-29.

A COSMIC MOVIE CAMERA: DO NOT MISS THIS IMMERSIVE ART EXHIBIT EXPERIENCE YOU CAN ENJOY SAFELY FROM HOME BUT SEE IN PERSON TOO AS IF YOU ARE THERE (the films, the audio, the text, all of it, the floors, the layout, best interactive online real exhibit I’ve seen yet) https://epoch.gallery/ACosmicMovieCamera/index.htm

Apple TV+ shows have been some of the best and this looks like another hit. Amazing cas and the creator has a very strong pedigree.
Andrew Scott is a wonder and with Steve Zallion at the helm, I feel this new adaptation of the modern thriller should be quite the compelling series.
Got chills watching this and knowing A24 there’s so much more to this film than this trailer.
From the same studio who did the Da Vinci puzzle series, so I feel this will be a great brain teaser and visual fest.
An actual Boy’s Manga from an writer and artist perfectly suited to tell this strange but wonderful love story. https://tokyopop.com/collections/comingsoon/products/9781427874047_captain-laserhawk-a-blood-dragon-remix
A short from the 2024 graduating class of The Animation Workshop.
An all original, never seen before in any format Anime from the creator of Afro Samurai and the director of the anime adaptation of  Jujutsu Kaisen.
Another excellent 8 Bit
Richard Linklater films ALWAYS hit good.
Unfamiliar with the source material, but Sam Neill and Annette Bening in the cast and production has a good pedigree, looks interesting.
Merely an announcement trailer but be assured when Feb 1st comes around in days I’ll be listening to that new Billy Joel track for sure!
The Rick and Morty anime actually has good vibes.
At the end of the day it’s a live action adaptation of a an American anime. There will be people who will love it and others who hate it. I just want to watch it.
I’ll watch is as it hits YT for sure! Follow Grouse House.
New Guns n Roses. I like it.
Yay! Can’t wait to see what the B story is!
Behind the scenes/Making of Monarch footage. It’s crazy how simple it looks to how crazy they end up making it appear. I love that even after being the business for 30+ years I can love the art of film.
The entire red carpet premiere.
It’s so good. Give me a Bradley Calder movie.
new Wedren always a treat.
It’s looks so bad that it looks good.
Good teaser. I’m intrigued.
new Yungblud.
new ThxSoMuch.
quality sounds and visuals.
Cuts the song early (and the song is great) but these Alex Da Corte visuals.
John Cena lipsynching to Boy George…. wow.
Speaking of John Cena… holy shit.
This looks intense. Dev Patel as a modern day Hanuman with Sharlto and a amazing cast of Bollywood, Tollywood, Tamil, and Telugu, etc. greats.
This looks fun to play.
They built an entire section of an amusement park dedicated to the property, of course there was gonna be more movies on top of that. How could there not be?!?
I usually keep wrestling off of Nerd Notes, but…
Super spoilery trailer, but still excited for the second Ghostbusters redux film from Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman.
I did not get hacked, I did not. Oh, hello Password!

New Orleans Jan 2024 Trip-Day 5 and 6

Went to the French Quarter with plans to eat the Ruby Slipper again and then meet Pam and the girls at French Market. Ruby Slipper was a 35 minute wait to be seated so we made our way up Decatur stopping in shops along the way. Around 11 we found a place we agreed upon. Cafe Maspero. I had a Mufalatta and mother had a ham and cheese comlette with cheese grits, then we shared beignet sticks, (beignet in the shape and form of a french fry). After more walking was done and shopping on Decatur. I got playing cards, we both got jewelry, and more. We explored the Market, met up with Pam and then the girls.

Pam, mother and I went to the NOLA Museum of Jazz while the girls explored French Market. Lots of awesome exhibits, also saw a live performance by Marc Stone. The museum took up a nice chunk of time, a couple hours actually taking every thing in plus the concert. After we walked around a bit more exploring before grabbing an early dinner but far removed from breakfast/lunch to be famished.

Went to Zhang Bistro where mother and I shared a coconut chicken soup and duck pad thai, the girls all had other dishes which I do not recall. I was fairly stoned from the rest of the THC Lemonade made in Baton Rouge that I purchased the day before. Dinner was tasty.

To cap the evening we walked over to Royal and Esplanade to watch the Le Boheme parade. It was mesmerizing display of sight and sound and the perfect end to a vacation before a final breakfast and boarding the plane this morning back to NYC.

There is plenty I did not see. Bywater, city park, certain museums, cemetaries, but time and also a not completely cooperative weather got things turned inside out and upside down. Still a wonderful trip and the reasons for it fufilled.

The next day before getting on the plane back to New York we were brought to docks near where we had a small breakfast at a local diner spot Russell’s Marina Grill. The weather wasn’t nice enough to really enjoy views of Lake Pontchartrain, so we headed back to the house we were renting and waited for the cab to the aiport with Pam to say goodbye to us officially.

Everything from there was mostly smooth sailing. At the airport back in NYC we encountered issues with getting a ride home, but it was rectified and I saw Eric Andre and got to yell I love you to him in a random encounter and that’s the trip. I would definitely return to New Orlean and maybe one day I will.

New Orleans Jan 2024 Trip Days 3 and 4

On Wednesday mother went downtown and after the bank and some walking went to breakfast at Cafe Fleur de Lis. I had eggs, pancakes and a slab of pork belly, mother had an avocado omlette and grits.

After we got on the #12 St Charles Trolley down to Audobon Park. We then walked the length of the park to meet Pam, Nerina and Meriel at Audobon Zoo. Because they had just joined the library they were able to arrange fr us to all get in free.

The zoo was amazing and really should not be called a zoo with the amount of art, immersive art and museum like information as well as set pieces and details that made you feel like you were in Universal Studios. We got to see a jaguar get fed, an albino alligator, sloths, elephants, bears and lions, oh my.

For dinner we headed to Frenchman st where we ate at Snug Harbor. Options for me there we low but I had a very tasty burger with Jamblaya while the ladies all had seafood. Also had an amazing brownie, fudgy with plenty walnuts and a good size.

After we walked Frenchman for a bit, we walked into the Artist’s alley where I picked up a pipe. We enjoyed the music and then made our way to Bourbon taking in the sights and sounds slowly making our way down out of the French Quarter to head back to our respective homes.

Mother and I had walked a minimum of 8 miles.

Thursday Pam (sans the twins) came over to our place and we took a bus and trolley down to right outside the French Quarter. We had a small bite at The Palace Dinner [I had white chocolate bread pudding, mother turtle soup and pam the gumbo). I then bid the ladies goodbye as they went off to the Bayou and I chose to explore the French Quarter as there was much I had not seen.

I got myself a Delta 9 lemonade, drank it and started walking down various blocks zig zagging through the quarter. I stopped in art galleries, book stores, food shops, knick knacks, clothing, thrift, etc.

I took a long detour even at the Pharmacy museum inbetween shopping and exploring.

I ended up getting a pair of earrings of Smurfs, a book [The Sound of Building Coffins by Louis Maistros] published by the book store (Crescent City), Creole Chickory coffee at Pierre Lafitte Trading Company, pralines at Magnolia, and DVDs at Arcadian Books [a bunch of stuff I didn’t even knew existed and looked really interesting for $20 and with the Free pile outside I really got my money’s worth].

My last stop on my own was Willie’s Chick Shack to get some real Louisiana fried chicken and creole fries with a biscuit. As I was having this for the first time the THC drink hit hard and to my left I got to experience three rowdy sexy partying ladies flirting with a promotor/club wrangler and boy howdy it was a triple dose of sound, visual, and taste at the same time and wonderful and memorable indeed.

After a very long walk back to the other side of the Quarter I met up with Pam and mom at the Carousel Bar but it was crowded so after a bit relaxing and bearings we ended up at Mr. Ed’s for a dinner. I finally got have some gumbo (they had one without seafood) and had a poboy, mom had alligator bites and I can’t completely recall what Pam had. We then walked out of the French Quarter but not before hearing wild conversations, a small band parade and stilt walkers (and no, not just cause I was high, they were real). Then it was back to the home, Pam came back with us and then left for her place from here.

I got to watch the newest episode of Death and Other Details which is currently on my tops for 2024.

New Orleans Jan 2024 Trip Day 1 and 2

I went to New Orleans on Monday 1/22/24 with my mother to visit long time family friends who had moved back to the US after 7 years and for now are stationed in Louisiana. After getting to the house we rented for the week and settling in we went to to meet said friends, hung out, then went into the French Quarter. After exploring around a bit and enjoying each other’s company we had dinner at Muriel’s.

I had a cocktail called Vampire’s kiss, turtle soup and a pork chop dish, while the ladies all had fish. After more walking it was a full day and we parted till the next day back to our respective “homes”.

On day 2 mother and I had breakfast at Ruby Slipper in Marigny. We shared a Bannanas Fosters French Toast and a trifecta of Bennies (egg’s benedict on a buttermilk biscuit), one with fried chicken cutlet, another with pork chochon and mother had the Bayou shrimp to herself (I allergic to all seafood unfortunately).

We then walked up from where Ruby Slipper was to walking a long length of St. Claude crossing the boulevard back and forth for art/street art/graffiti photos and shops up to the Food Co-Op location, then back all the way to Dumaine where Banksy’s Umbrella Girl sits under glass safely.

Then through French Quarter then along the Riverside Park to the Audobon Aquarium where we met our friends. Visited said Aquarium then walked around French Quarter in the fog. Visited Cafe Du Mond, had coffee and beignets and other various shops.

The friends went home and mother and I explored Decatur street after a discussion with my long time bud Russ Murphy aka Cash4 directing us to Factory of Weird (where I got an earring of a mini traffic cone covered in little tags including Cash4), me getting an Irish Cream at Envie, and then Tuesday special 8 oz Filet Mignon at Turtle Bay before ending the night as it drizzled around New Orleans.

Photos to come.
