New Look at WE SERVED THE PEOPLE: MY MOTHER’S STORIES

Discover an Incredible Story of Coming of Age Under Mao’s Rule in Communist China in April 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 6, 2020) – BOOM! Studios today revealed an exclusive new look at original graphic novel WE SERVED THE PEOPLE: MY MOTHER’S STORIES, available on April 22, 2020, from Eisner-nominated cartoonist Emei Burell as she breathes new life into her mother’s stories of growing up in mid-1960’s Communist China.

In China, an entire generation’s most formative years took place in remote rural areas when city kids were sent to the countryside to become rusticated youth and partake in Mao’s mandated Great Leap Forward. Emei’s mother, Yuan Ye Ping, recounts how she ended up as one of the few truck-driving women during the Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement, which sought to increase agricultural outreach and spur social and ideological change amongst youth.

Burell’s stunning illustrations honor her mother’s courage, strength, and determination during a decade of tremendous political upheaval and introduces us to a young woman making her way in a new era of self-discovery.

WE SERVED THE PEOPLE: MY MOTHER’S STORIES is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ ambitious Archaia imprint, home to graphic novels such as Mouse Guard by David Petersen; New World by David Jesus Vignolli; Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna and Ramón Pérez; About Betty’s Boob by Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau; Bolivar by Sean Rubin; and licensed series including Lev Grossman’s The Magicians: Alice’s Story by Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak; Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation.

Matt Kindt’s MIND MGMT is now a hit board game

Award winning game designers tackle this complex and layered story

Vancouver, Canada: MIND MGMT: The Psychic Espionage “Game” is a tense, paranoia-fueled game of deduction and second-guessing from Off the Page Games. It’s based on the NY Times Best Selling series from Matt Kindt and is launching on Kickstarter March 3rd.

In this “one vs. many” game, players act as either a secret organization known as MIND MGMT (Mind Management) trying to find recruits and evade capture, or as rogue agents, determined to locate and take MIND MGMT down.

As Matt Kindt explains, “I was lucky enough to meet two talented, award-winning board game designers that weren’t just fans of MIND MGMT — they really got it. This isn’t just the definitive board game interpretation of the comics, it’s an interactive story-telling and training device. Proceed at your own risk.” Matt partnered up with Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim, designers of Junk Art, Belfort and D&D: Rock Paper Wizard to make his world of espionage and paranoia come alive in a board game.

“We wanted to pack in as much deduction and teamwork as we could in a game that takes less than an hour to play ,” says Sen-Foog Lim, as these kinds of games usually take two or more hours to complete.

Fans of Matt Kindt and of the MIND MGMT comic series will be in for a real treat as the game will come with 80+ pages of new MIND MGMT stories — all written and illustrated by Matt Kindt. One mini-comic will come in each of the 10 sealed packages which are part of what Off the Page Games is calling the SHIFT System.

“We’re introducing the SHIFT System where at the end of each game, the side that loses gets to open a package which will give them more components, cards and rules to improve their chances the next time they play,” explains Jay Cormier, co-designer and also founder of Off the Page Games.

MIND MGMT: The Psychic Espionage “Game” is the first game being published from Off the Page Games, but it’s founder, Jay Cormier, has over a dozen published games including Akrotiri, Godfather: A New Don, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Draw Your Own Conclusions, and more.

Eager game and comic fans should visit www.offthepagegames.com for more information.

MIND MGMT: The Psychic Espionage “Game” launches on Kickstarter March 3rd, 7am PST.

BLISS from Image (an genre mixing Urban Fantasy coming soon)

NEIL GAIMAN’S AMERICAN GODS MEETS BREAKING BAD IN ADDICTIVE NEW URBAN FANTASY MAXI-SERIES BLISS LAUNCHING THIS JUNE
Interior preview pages revealed

PORTLAND, Ore. 03/02/2020 — Award winning playwright and bestselling comics writer Sean Lewis (Coyotes, Thumbsreteams with fan favorite Coyotes artist Caitlin Yarsky for a dark urban fantasy maxi-series titled Bliss. It will consist of two story arcs and launch from Image Comics this June.

“I grew up seeing people getting addicted to things: drugs, success, sex… it always seemed to be about forgetting deeper pains,” said Lewis. “I spent some of my life trying to forget my dad through these means, now that I’m a dad it made me wonder: how could that cycle break? And what happens to all these memories we push away? What if the Goddess Lethe was real? What if she is who we answered to?”

In this upcoming series, there’s a drug called Bliss wiping away memories in Feral City. A good-hearted young man—overwhelmed by a deathly sick child and distraught wife—makes a deal to become the personal hitman to three gods, killing those in their way and sending memories down the river of Oblivion in exchange for his family’s well-being.

Yarsky added: “As time passes and we become more burdened with memories of our past mistakes and misfortunes, we often turn to self destructive coping mechanisms. Anything to turn off the din of guilt and regret. But in the process of trying to drown it all out, we create monsters that eat away at us until there is nothing left. To me, Bliss is about what happens when we pull ourselves out of the wreckage. It’s about finding redemption through self-actualization and love.”

Best described as Breaking Bad meets Neil Gaiman’s American GodsBliss is the perfect new addiction for fans of Gaiman’s Sandman and Dan Watters and Dani’s Coffin Bound.

Bliss #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 24.

Bliss #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000, a surreal RPG Paddle adventure, launches today on Steam!

Take your Table Tennis game beyond the table… and past the bounds of logic and common sense.

Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000 blasts its way onto the Steam storefront today!

Take part in a bizarre adventure that sees your paddle grow from a simple set of blocky pixels into a powered-up beast of a raquet, complete with equipment, spells, and secret thoughts… even romantic ones, because paddles can love, too. HPTT3K’s RPG mechanics are more than a gimmick: they’re the heart of the game. Level up to increase your stats and size, learn new spells, read other paddles’ minds, and get tons of other fun bonuses.

This absurdist adventure into a world of paddles, peril, and peculiarity is available right now on Steam for only $1.99 USD.

About Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000

Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000 is a story of an anthropomorphic paddle—voiced by Mark Meer (Commander Shepard, Mass Effect)—who feels destined to become the best table tennis paddle in the hypergalaxy. While crushing his foes, he learns a little something about love along the way. Each paddle he fights has a name, a story, a heart… each one is important, goddamnit.

We’ve taken the simplest possible interaction between two sentient video table tennis paddles and turned it into a beautiful complex tapestry of oblique jokes, role-playing mechanics, magic spells, ridiculous cosmetic equipment, capturable beasts, and a full dialog system allowing you to converse with—and eventually romance—the strongest of your paddle foes (should your ballwork be sufficiently skilled & your paddle love be reciprocated).

Get your ball past the opposing paddle to build your skills, discover your paddle-lover’s secret yearnings, and get up close and personal with the pixelated space between love and death. It’s an ultra-Freudian Dadaesque ball-paddling fever dream of a game
