Gabby Rivera and Celia Moscote Announce JULIET TAKES A BREATH Graphic Novel From BOOM! Studios

Discover the Acclaimed Author’s Bestselling Coming-of-Age Story as a
Graphic Novel in November 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 18, 2020) – BOOM! Studios today announced the brand new graphic novel, JULIET TAKES A BREATH. Critically-acclaimed writer Gabby Rivera (b.b. free) adapts her bestselling novel alongside artist Celia Moscote and colorist James Fenner in an unforgettable queer coming-of-age story exploring race, identity and what it means to be true to your amazing self, even when the rest of the world doesn’t understand, available in November 2020.

Juliet Milagros Palante is leaving the Bronx and headed to Portland, Oregon. She just came out to her family and isn’t sure if her mom will ever speak to her again.

But don’t worry, Juliet has something kinda resembling a plan that’ll help her figure out what it means to be Puerto Rican, lesbian and out. See, she’s going to intern with Harlowe Brisbane – her favorite feminist author, someone whose work on feminism, self-love and lots of other things will help Juliet find her ever elusive epiphany.

There’s just one problem – Harlowe’s white, not from the Bronx and doesn’t have all the answers. Okay, maybe that’s more than one problem, but Juliet never said it was a perfect plan…

Gabby Rivera is a Bronx-born, queer Puerto Rican author on a mission to create the wildest, most fun stories ever. She’s the first Latina to write for Marvel Comics, penning the solo series America about America Chavez, a portal-punching queer Latina powerhouse. Rivera’s critically acclaimed debut novel Juliet Takes a Breath was called “f*cking outstanding” by Roxane Gay and was re-published in September 2019 by Penguin Random House. Currently, Gabby is the writer and creator of b.b. free, a new original comic series with BOOM! Studios. Stay tuned for her podcast joy revolution coming in 2020! When not writing, Gabby speaks on her experiences as a queer Puerto Rican from the Bronx, an LGBTQ youth advocate, and the importance of prioritizing joy in QTPOC communities at events across the country. Gabby makes magic on both coasts, currently residing in California. She writes for all the sweet baby queers, and her mom.

“So excited to be working with BOOM! studios on the JULIET TAKES A BREATH graphic novel. We’re blasting new energy into the story and lush colors all over the page,” said writer Gabby Rivera. “Get ready for a Juliet Milagros Palante that’s gayer, chubbier, and more confident than ever before.”

Celia Moscote is a storyboard artist and illustrator based out of the greater Los Angeles area who is best known for their work on the animated film Tina and the Gucci Flip Flop, as well as their representation of diverse characters within their zines, comics, and character designs.

“I am beyond excited for everyone to see JULIET TAKES A BREATH. I cried when I first read it! It’s a story I wish I had when I was first trying to navigate the world,” said artist Celia Moscote. “It’s an absolute honor to be able to bring such an amazing cast of characters to life. Family drama, sexual re-awakenings and a bunch of incredibly smart and hot women, what more could you ask for?”

JULIET TAKES A BREATH is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed BOOM! Box imprint, home to popular original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Backstagers by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh; Heavy Vinyl by Carly Usdin and Nina Vakueva; b.b. free by Gabby Rivera and Royal Dunlap; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna The Mad; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

Juliet Takes a Breath is such an important novel about coming of age and coming out so it’s been a wonderful experience to be able to live in this world and relive this story as we adapt it into a graphic novel,” said Shannon Watters, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We are very excited to be working with Gabby and Celia to create this graphic novel that will introduce new readers to Gabby’s powerful writing and Celia’s incredible illustrations, while giving longtime fans a beautiful new version to discover.”

VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT PARTNERS WITH NIGHTDIVE STUDIOS TO DELIVER REMASTERED MULTI-PLATFORM GAME SHADOW MAN

AWARD-WINNING COMIC BOOK PUBLISHER AND INDIE GAME STUDIO TO DEVELOP PREMIER VIDEO GAME BASED ON POPULAR SHADOWMAN COMIC SERIES

March 18, 2020 (New York, NY) – Valiant Entertainment has partnered with Nightdive Studios to develop a remastered edition of the classic action-adventure video game SHADOW MAN. The remastered edition will be coming to Windows PC via the Steam and GOG platforms, as well as to the PlayStation, Xbox and Switch consoles. This partnership continues Valiant’s expansion into other mediums in addition to publishing.

Valiant Entertainment is home to the third-largest connected universe in comics, behind Marvel and DC, with over 2,000 characters. Since DMG Entertainment’s acquisition of Valiant in late 2018, the global media and entertainment company has proven its ambitious plans to grow its presence in Hollywood, making its first foray into theaters with “Bloodshot”, starring Vin Diesel, opening #1 worldwide this past weekend.

“As part of our continued growth into the video game industry, we’re happy to bring Valiant fans this immensely popular Shadow Man character as the next title we release,” said Dan Mintz, Chairman and CEO of Valiant Entertainment. “Using this platform allows the Valiant fans to experience and explore the universe creatively.”

Shadow Man is the brave and powerful supernatural hero who protects humanity from the sinister demons that lurk in the Deadside and spill into our world. The Shadow Man video game was originally developed by Acclaim Studios and published for the PC, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Dreamcast console in 1999. Considered a “lost classic” for years, the PC version of the game was published again in its original form by Nightdive Studios in 2014.

Now the title is being updated using Nightdive’s proprietary KEX engine which has been used to restore classic video games across all digital platforms including System Shock: Enhanced EditionTurokTurok 2: Seeds of EvilBlood: Fresh Supply, and Forsaken Remastered.

The Remastered version adds a host of features in addition to console support:

* 4K widescreen display
* Dynamic shadow mapping
* Dynamic per-pixel lighting
* Antialiasing, and other post-process effects
* Higher density of particle effects
* Refined art, audio, and assets
* Refined gameplay experience
* Reintroduction of missing content cut from the original game
* Xbox, PS4, Controller Pro support
* HDR Rendering

Stephen Kick, CEO at Nightdive Studios explained: “Our goal with the remaster is to give today’s generation of gamers all the features that they expect from a modern title while preserving the qualities that made Valiant’s iconic character and the original Shadow Man game such memorable classics to begin with.”

Shadowman will also have a brand-new comic book series this year! From master of horror Cullen Bunn (Venom) and bone-chilling artist Jon Davis-Hunt (The Wildstorm), SHADOWMAN #1 will release on May 20th. Fans can contact their local comic shop to preorder a copy now.

DRACULA, MOTHERF**KER—IN STORES THIS OCTOBER

ALEX DE CAMPI, ERICA HENDERSON OUT FOR BLOOD WITH PULP HORROR GRAPHIC NOVEL—DRACULA, MOTHERF**KER—IN STORES THIS OCTOBER

Preview pages of the action-filled twist
on the classic Bram Stoker vampire tale revealed

PORTLAND, Ore. 03/12/2020 — Bestselling writer Alex de Campi (Archie vs. Predator) and Erica Henderson (Squirrel Girlteam up for a pulpy, pulse-pounding, original graphic novel titled Dracula, Motherf**ker. This California-set, psychological horror story will hit stores from Image Comics in October.

Straddling two different timelines, Dracula, Motherf**ker travels between Vienna, 1889 where Dracula’s brides nail him to the bottom of his coffin and Los Angeles, 1974: wherein an ageing starlet decides to raise the stakes. Crime scene photographer Quincy Harker is the only man who knows it happened, but will anyone believe him… before he gets outlined in chalk himself?

“Most people who know my work are aware that I love pulp/exploitation cinema so me doing a book called Dracula, Motherf**ker shouldn’t really surprise anyone,” said De Campi. “Another thing I wanted to bring to this pulp fantasia was a sensibility from horror anime, with its love of transformation and of the noncorporeal, to push the element of man-as-monster in directions specifically suited to sequential art. Things like the abstract portrayal of Alucard (or Pride in FMA: Brotherhood), and the use of Superflat art in Madoka Magica were tremendously inspirational in this book, especially as that use of flatness dovetails nicely with the work of Gustav Klimt in with the book’s 1889 prologue, and with late-1960s pop art and the psychedelic liquid-light projections of the Joshua Light Show.

Erica Henderson has been an absolute dream to work with. She brings so, so much to the book, from her expert visual storytelling skills and her experimental, wildly exciting use of colour in this story to her appreciation of my Demi Moore jokes.  When I saw there’s a nocturne page which is chartreuse silhouettes on a cobalt background, I nearly died, it was so striking. Erica’s so famous from Squirrel Girl so people frequently think of her in terms of her skill with comedy, but seriously, she can do ANYTHING. And watching what she does with Dracula, Motherf**ker? There’s a lyricism of line and mastery of colour that blows everything else she’s done out of the water. That splash on page two makes me think of Kuniyoshi, and she’s brought so much in from blaxploitation film posters, pulp detective novel/Robert McGinnis colours… I’m really not worthy. People will be talking about her art on this book for a long time.”

The perfect standalone story for fans of BBC One’s recent miniseries Dracula, this is an action-filled twist on the classic Bram Stoker vampire tale.

Dracula, Motherf**ker (ISBN: 978-1-5343-1700-0) will be available on Wednesday, October 7 and in bookstores on Tuesday, October 13. It can be pre-ordered at your local comic book shops on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

Dracula, Motherf**ker will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

CHUCK NICE TO RELEASE UNCOMFORTABLY HOT DAD ON MARCH 17 VIA TLB RECORDS

New York, NY (March 10, 2020) — TLB Records has announced the March 17 release of Uncomfortably Hot Dad from comedian Chuck Nice. Pre-order the album and hear “Woke Up” HERE.

Chuck Nice is a study in hilarious contradictions—quick to anger but ultimately kind-hearted. He’s someone who admits his shortcomings but doesn’t suffer fools. He’s a dad who both loves and pretends to resent his children. With a vocal timbre that commands attention, Chuck Nice covers a wide spectrum of colorful subjects.

SiriusXM subscribers were treated to an exclusive premiere of the album that broadcasted in full on Raw Dog Comedy earlier this month. Tracks such as “Woke Up” show that the language police, political correctness, and social justice warriors can test even the most open mind. Chuck’s kindness intersects with a racial incident in an only-in-New-York story on “Blind Injustice.” On “Parenting R.O.I.,” Chuck drops the truth that all parents think about at some time—kids are usually a bad investment. On “Melting in the Melting Pot,” he explains how getting camera-ready with makeup shouldn’t have both gender identity and racial implications.

“I’m happy to have this work out in the public,” Nice says. “I love the idea of an album because it was my first introduction to comedy. I can only hope that young children will listen to this completely age-inappropriate material and decide to ruin their lives by becoming a comedian.”

Chuck Nice is a 19-year veteran of stand-up comedy with a rich history in entertainment. For years, he’s been busy making a name for himself across all mediums, including radio, television, and the internet. He recently delivered a TED Talk regarding the unintended consequence of future tech and human interaction and is the co-host of Star Talk with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson on Nat Geo. Chuck has also hosted How to Buy Like A Mega Millionaire and Home Strange Home on HGTV. He is a regular contributor to the Today Show, has guest-hosted The View, and is a frequent guest on MSNBC, CNN, and HLN.

Most recently Chuck is preparing the groundwork for the world’s largest youth climate summit, “Shhh…It’s Real!”,  which aims to activate the people most affected by the climate crisis—the youth who will inherit and inhabit the problem we are now creating.

TLB Records is a partnership between Robert Kelly’s Riotcast Network, 800 Pound Gorilla Media, and The Laugh Button.

New Look at WE SERVED THE PEOPLE: MY MOTHER’S STORIES

Discover an Incredible Story of Coming of Age Under Mao’s Rule in Communist China in April 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 6, 2020) – BOOM! Studios today revealed an exclusive new look at original graphic novel WE SERVED THE PEOPLE: MY MOTHER’S STORIES, available on April 22, 2020, from Eisner-nominated cartoonist Emei Burell as she breathes new life into her mother’s stories of growing up in mid-1960’s Communist China.

In China, an entire generation’s most formative years took place in remote rural areas when city kids were sent to the countryside to become rusticated youth and partake in Mao’s mandated Great Leap Forward. Emei’s mother, Yuan Ye Ping, recounts how she ended up as one of the few truck-driving women during the Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement, which sought to increase agricultural outreach and spur social and ideological change amongst youth.

Burell’s stunning illustrations honor her mother’s courage, strength, and determination during a decade of tremendous political upheaval and introduces us to a young woman making her way in a new era of self-discovery.

WE SERVED THE PEOPLE: MY MOTHER’S STORIES is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ ambitious Archaia imprint, home to graphic novels such as Mouse Guard by David Petersen; New World by David Jesus Vignolli; Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna and Ramón Pérez; About Betty’s Boob by Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau; Bolivar by Sean Rubin; and licensed series including Lev Grossman’s The Magicians: Alice’s Story by Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak; Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation.
